God’s Beautiful Design for Marriage & Singleness

God has a beautiful design for us, be it marriage and sex, or singleness.

In Genesis 2: 18-22, The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” … … So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

Marriage is a reflection. We reflect who God is through loving our partner. Ephesians 5:21-33 has clear instructions for Christian households.

21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body.31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Within marriage comes sex. Sex brings intimate union between husband and wife. In Genesis 2:24, that is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. In Genesis 4:1, Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the Lord I haven brought forth a man.”

Sex is not dirty; sex is for procreation. In Genesis 1:28, God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Sex is designed to be enjoyed ONLY within the marriage covenant to give complete exclusivity and security between husband and wife. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 reminds us to flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Fret not, God also has a design for singleness. God has reassured all the singles (including me) in 1 Corinthians 7:32-35, “I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs – how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world – how he can please his wife – and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world – how she can please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.”

So for all the singles out there, God wants to tell you that you are complete.

Jesus is single too!

The Great Moscow Circus 2018

Hi guys! I’m so excited to share with you about my first circus experience in Singapore at The Great Moscow Circus!!!!! Not only was it eye-opening, most of the performances were fun, exciting, interesting and even dangerous too! These highly talented performers are only in Singapore for 5 weeks so grab your tickets fast!

The Great Moscow Circus returns to Singapore for the first time in over 10 years, with over 45 performers – acrobats, clowns, jugglers, daredevils – all circus stars renowned world-wide for their theatrical and breath-taking talents.

Circus doesn’t get much wilder than this! The music is generally cute, fun-loving and cheerful. The whole experience was really entertaining for me! Fret not, most of it are in the English language.

I have never seen someone like him who is so flexible to the extent that I think all his body parts are detachable and rotatable! Oh my God!

Come prepared to be awed by astonishing swingers and the little surprises they give!

One of my favorites is this Wheel of Death. Keep your eyes still and see the perfect somersault! Stunning!

How many of us can juggle with our hands and keep our feet balanced at the same time? You know what? He can even play guitar and still keeps his balance.

Can you pop balls in and out of your mouth? One stressful thing about a circus is that every performance is live. You can’t edit it! If something goes wrong, it has to be rectified on the spot to satisfy the audience!

The Motorbike Sphere of Fear is a death-defying act and a heart-pounding spectacular sight to behold. It silenced me!

This is the greatest show. I’m not spoiling you with everything else, so go get your tickets now!

God, Here I Am

Meeting God transforms a burning bush into a burning heart. Exodus 3:4 When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am. Let’s learn to say, “God, Here I Am to meet you.”

Surrendering aligns us to God’s will and unlocks his provision in our lives. Genesis 22:1-2 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” Let’s learn to say, “God, Here I Am to surrender to you.”

Acknowledging God unlocks his blessings and favor in our lives. Genesis 31:11 Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob,’ and I said, ‘Here I am!’ Let’s learn to say, “God, Here I Am to acknowledge you.”

Ultimately, serving unlocks the greatness God desires for us.

From this day on, let’s always say, “God, Here I Am to serve you.”

AMEN!

4D3N Ho Chi Minh City 2018 – Ruby River Hotel, Ben Thanh Market, Duong’s, Cu Chi Tunnels, Saigon On Motorbike, Reunification Palace, Central Post Office, Notre Dame Cathedral, War Remnants Museum, Huynh Hoa’s Banh Mi and more!

IMG_2310.JPG

Welcome to Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), Vietnam!

I tried to blend myself in by strolling along the walking street to admire street performers and indulge myself in the friendly culture. I also shopped at Ben Thanh market and Saigon Centre.

IMG_2312.JPG

I especially loved kungfu panda posing for me!

I stayed in Ruby River Hotel, a cozy small hotel in district 1. It’s a very comfortable stay for me. The hotel smells good, and it’s quiet. I had restful sleep throughout my 4 days 3 nights stay. Prices are around SGD$61 per room per night, which is very reasonable. It’s located in a strategic location within walking distances to various food areas, massage places, shopping areas and some attractions.

The very first good meal I had was a wonderful traditional Vietnamese set meal at Duong’s for 450,000 Vietnamese dong, which cost about SGD$26. It’s a little pricey but the high class environment and the attentiveness of the staff awed me. I wrapped my own Vietnamese spring roll back in Hanoi and here I’m wrapping my own main course in Ho Chi Minh City! The main course that I had to D-I-Y was “Hanoi Traditional Grilled Fish” (La Vong’s Style) which consists of catfish marinated with galangal, lemongrass, chili, turmeric, shrimp paste, fermented steamed rice. It’s served with dill, spring onion, fresh rice vermicelli, herbs and traditional Vietnamese dipping sauce. I also had a piping hot bowl of the highly popular street food, “Pho”, which is a Vietnamese soup consisting of beef broth, rice noodles called banh pho, mushroom, lime leaves, cinnamon, cardamom, onion, herbs and meat, primarily beef or chicken. The meal ended sweetly with a black sticky rice with sugar, coconut milk, yogurt, ice cream and cookies bits. Day 1 was satisfying!

One thing about the Vietnamese is that the handicapped actually make amazing handicrafts! They painstakingly break egg shells and use them to decorate the handicrafts. It’s a tedious and time consuming process from painting to polishing of the finished product.

The best part of my trip got to be the visiting of the Cu Chi Tunnels on day 2. It’s interesting to listen to the carefully planned escape and hiding routes the Vietnamese warriors took to survive the wars and defeat the enemies. I take my hat off to their great survival skills. The bus ride to Cu Chi Tunnels from Ho Chi Minh City is 2.5 hours!

Fly me to the moon please!!!!!!!!

Otherwise, take me into the tunnel. I crawled for the longest time in my life to escape from one side of the tunnel to the other side. It’s dark inside but really fun! I got all muddy and dirty.

I was so happy as I realized I seemed to have found my new home!!!!!! I didn’t know I’d fall in love with living inside a small hole and camouflaging myself. It’s an exciting adventure.

Food wise, I tried the tapioca dipped in peanuts. It’s delicious and sweet on its own too. Throughout the “war zone”, there are also many tactful traps to trick the enemies.

For instance, the shoes are worn in the opposite directions so the soles of the footprints will also leave trails in the opposite directions to confuse the enemies.

You can also play airgun rifle somewhere nearby Cu Chi Tunnels! Shoot your target with real bullets to experience the thrill and loud sound.

When I got back to Ho Chi Minh City, I went for a simple and average Vietnamese lunch at “Bep Me In” located at a small alley near Ben Thanh Market. This is a household edition of Vietnamese cuisine and taste like what a mother cooks.

After a short rest back at Ruby River Hotel, I hopped onto a “Saigon by Motorbike”night tour to visit some of the less touristy places. For instance, I visited the Thich Quang Due Statue – who burnt himself to go against the draconian policy of the South Vietnamese Government.

I tried the Vietnamese Hue Noodle Soup with a rich broth and beef slices. It leaves a sweet aftertaste. I realized most of the noodle soup in Vietnam comes with a lot of herbs. The sugarcane drink tasted similar to Singapore’s style with lemon.

It’s a homely and special experience to visit some of the oldest apartments area in district 3. Most of the locals live very simply in their homes watching TV, eat home cooked food, or entertain their children with toys. In fact, one of the more luxury enjoyment is having a mini BBQ with family and friends just at the corridors outside their homes.

I also passed by the biggest flower market in district 10, followed by a motorbike ride towards the fashion street with fashionable clothes just for the locals, a traditional local wet market and a small Cambodian market with street food and people watching soccer together. I enjoyed people-watching the life of the locals.

I pretty much like district 7, as it is a living area full of light in the night. The starlight bridge is a highlight for the locals there, especially lovers. There are also random “sparkles” on the floor of the bridge itself, making the area bright and romantic.

Some of the locals even live in boats with beds, toilets, and kitchens. My night ended with drinking a huge coconut, shopping and bargaining for the best prices at some small night markets. Woohoo! Day 2 was fulfilling!

The city tour on day 3 started with an exploration of the Reunification Palace, also known as the Independent Palace. It’s so grand and beautiful!

Everything is delicate and intricate from the grand meeting places and offices to the colorful telephones that signify different messages.

If I were given a choice, I would love to live in this palace!

Moving on, the Central Post Office is a beautifully preserved remnant of French colonial times and perhaps the grandest post office in all of Southeast Asia. This building features arched windows and wooden shutters. The looping arches, intricately designed marble floors and antiquated telephone boxes reminds us of the importance the post office played in the olden days before emails and mobile phones. This is still a functioning post office today and you can still send a letter or postcard the old fashioned way.

Located next door is Notre Dame Cathedral, another cultural site that offers visitors a chance to imagine life in Vietnam during the times of the Indochinese Empire.

I also tried weasel coffee. It’s a little bitter and thick on its own, so I enjoyed mine with condensed milk to make it sweeter and more fragrant.

The army guys would probably enjoy visiting The War Remnants Museum which was also once known as the “Museum of American War Crimes”. It’s a shocking reminder of the long and brutal Vietnam war. The American troops had used weapons and military equipment such as a helicopter with rocket launchers, a tank, a fighter plane, a single-seater attack aircraft, and even a conventional bomb against the Vietnamese between 1945 and 1975.

After the half day city tour, I had a sumptuous Vietnamese family meal at Cyclo Resto. The staff are very friendly and courteous. I tried egg coffee!

The rest of the day was spent enjoying a hot stone massage at Blue Sky Spa, chilling with matcha at a quiet cafe “Koicha” and some slow and light shopping at night markets. So slack right!

My favorite find throughout my whole trip would be Huynh Hoa’s Banh Mi!!!!!! It’s like baguette with lots of ingredients in it. Very special taste. Another food to try would be broken rice, which is like a typical mixed vegetables rice but in Vietnam version. This trip has inevitably added lots of calories to me! I eat until very full everyday!

On my last day in Ho Chi Minh City, I strolled towards the Ho Chi Minh Museum in the morning. It’s a quiet place and it’s free of charge. It’s not very tourist-friendly though, as most of the information are written in the Vietnamese language.

I chanced upon Saigon Opera House, an elegant colonial building at the intersection of Le Loi and Dong Khoi Street in District 1. This restored three-storey 800-seat Opera House was built in 1897 and is used for staging opera and a wide range of performing arts including ballet, musical concerts, Vietnamese traditional dance and plays.

Thereafter, I went to “Trung Nguyen Legend Coffee” for a short coffee break and then moved on to hunt for “Bun Mam” just across Ben Thanh Market, a fermented fish rice noodles with seafood and a rich but slightly salty broth. Both were decently good and left me craving for more.

Thank you Vietnam for the wonderful insights into Ho Chi Minh City! Thanks for reading!

Halloween Horror Nights 8 Survival Guide

Hi guys! Halloween is here again at Universal Studios Singapore on select nights from 27 September – 31 October 2018. Are you ready to get scared?!

Some survival tips include no masks, no costumes, no line jumping, no foul language, no inappropriate behavior, no food, no drinks, no bottles, no laser pointers, no video recording and no photography in the haunted attractions. However, screaming is fine.

Scare Zone A is the Cannibal, where a man-hunting tribe devours the bodies of rivals killed in revenge.

Scare Zone B is where you get thrown into chaos in Apocalypse: Earth as Mother Nature unleashes her most terrifying forces and takes over New York.

There are 5 haunted houses. One of the highly hyped one is Stranger Things, where you experience the mysterious world of Stranger Things as you enter Hawkins National Laboratory and brave the parallel universe of the Upside Down. It’s a bit futuristic to me!

My favorite haunted house is The Haunting of Oiwa where you will discover the hidden secrets of an Edo-era samurai, and face the haunting spirit of Lady Oiwa. This is the most captivating and alluring haunted house!

Pagoda of Peril sets your heart pounding as you enter the Pagoda prison full of demons anxiously waiting to fight for freedom. I like the sophisticated process of witnessing the wrath of the yin demon as he traps malevolent demons and terrifying spirits in his prison-like pagoda. There’s no escaping! He waits to feed on your soul for his eternal life. Be careful! It’s a highly dangerous house to visit but I loved it.

Pontianak challenges the brave souls to face the revenge-seeking Pontianak and be exposed to the danger of being the next victim to quench the desire of the bloodthirsty soul. This particular haunted house is a rather short trail and offers just a short thrill as well.

A good overall eye-opener and teaser would be “Killuminati” which makes you quiver in fear in the secret world of the Killuminati, where the night is eternal and the blood is their fuel. In there, there’s a combination of all sorts of ghosts, souls, spirits and more.

All of the props in these 5 haunted houses are so well-crafted and surreal. The actors are great at popping out to scare you or fly over you when you least expect them to! It’s interesting, exciting and horrifying.

A good show to catch is “Blood & Bones” which tells a story about the Chief of the tribe sacrificing its captured victims, and giving the tribesmen extra strength when devoured. This ritual happens once a month.

Brace yourself for this gruesome ritual of Blood & Bones at the Cannibal zone.

Otherwise, experience infinity fear at the “Scaremony” show as you rush through the scream-inducing halls of Eight Lake Psychiatric Hospital, where unknown horrors await in the darkness. Not for the faint-hearted!

We completed exploring 5 haunted houses, walked bravely through 2 scare zones and watched 2 gruesome shows. We made it out alive. Thank you team for the awesome night! You guys are great!

2 Yong Tau Foo to Check Out

1) Soon Li Yong Tau Foo @ 115 Bukit Merah View

Soon Li Yong Tau Foo only opens at night around 11pm+ onwards all the way to 4am thereabout. The soup is their highlight. It has a green pepper taste in it. Once you picked your ingredients, simply leave your bowl around the counter area and join the queue on the left side of the stall. When it’s your turn, take your bowl from the counter area and pass it to the stall owner and tell him or her your choice of Yong Tao Foo – dry / soup / with vegetables / with ikan bilis / with chili / with sweet sauce. The owners are a quiet uncle and a grumpy auntie. Surprisingly, it’s quite a popular and old school stall with a crazy queue. Somewhere to go for if you’re craving for soup stuff in the middle of the night.

I made the effort to try 928 Ngee Fou Restaurant (Hakka) Ampang Yong Tou Fou after hearing some”wows” about it. The variety of yong tou fou they have is quite limited and the sauce is pretty salty and sticky. Not really my type but glad that I eventually and officially tried it once after hearing the hype.

5 Thai Cuisine in Singapore

1) Ob Woon Authentic Thai Cuisine / Mango Mango @ Djitsun DJ Mall Bedok

When I think of thai cuisine, the first thing that comes to my mind will be mango sticky rice! Mango lovers would love MangoMango, especially its rich signature mango smoothie that originated from Indonesia.

Mango Mango
Djitsun DJ Mall Bedok

Food wise, the recent opening of “Ob Woon”, a cozy and homely place that serves authentic Thai cuisine, is pleasing for my palette. Salted egg thai-style salad, clear tom yum soup, red tom yum soup, pork collar, prawns with vermicelli, braised pork leg, salt-baked fish, kailan with pork and drunken prawns are just some of the signatures among many other delicious dishes. Ob Woon means warmth and Chef Joel seeks to create food that makes people happy.

2) JJ Thai Cuisine @ #01-10 8 Jln Legundi S759274

IMG_0247

I just want to make a special recommendation on their Thai iced milk tea ($3 nett) – an excellent balance of both tea and milk, just thick enough and sweet enough. It stands out from the various other Thai iced milk teas that I’ve always had as most were either way overly sweet or lacking the flavour. Good job on the Thai iced milk tea!

The mango salad ($5 nett) lacks the mango taste though. Kinda disappointed =/

Atmosphere wise, I don’t know why it played Chinese oldies music when I was there. The place is also a little small so seats are quite limited.

If you’re on a budget, JJ Thai Cuisine will serve you exactly well as the food prices are all very reasonable and you could get a decent meal for below $10 nett per person.

3) Nakhon Kitchen @ 136 Bedok North Ave 3 #01-166

IMG_3707

This place has a real long queue! However, I personally found that the food’s very normal – not worth the queue and waiting time to me.

Homemade thai fish cake ($6) – it’s simply otah but it’s not so spicy and doesn’t have too strong an otah taste.

Stir-fried asparagus with mushroom ($6) – crunchy asparagus with limited mushrooms available. I’m an asparagus fan so I pretty much liked this dish! It’s pretty hot too.

Deep fried chicken with garlic ($6) – not much chicken meat…..not flavourful. Very plain tasting, slightly oily as well. Too much fried skin.

Pineapple fried rice ($6) – quite soft rice with two slice of cut pineapples. The pork floss was good. Other than some yellow colouring, there’s really not much pineapple taste cos it’s sliced and not diced to mix into the rice.

Thai style fried kway teow ($4) – this could be the best tasting food among tonight’s dishes. Quite cheap and it’s quite a big plate. Not too oily as well. Very appetizing.

Thai style fried tang hoon ($6) – I personally found the tang hoon very slippery and easy to eat. It’s flavorful too.

Green curry ($8) – Thick curry with loads of vegetables!

Stir-fried squid with hot basil leaves ($10) – very chewy squids……. but sadly the basil taste was too mild! Quantity’s quite a lot so quite worth it. However, it’s not cooked till very hot so I was a little disappointed.

Stir-fried mince pork with hot basil leaves ($6) – very easy to eat and goes well with the rice. Again, there’s not much of basil taste….. and yes, I was disappointed again.

Clear seafood tom yam soup ($6) – overly sour!!!!!!!!!!! It’s the first time in my life where I tasted such sourish tom yam soup… there’s no tom yam smell…… it’s like a sour soup.

Thai iced tea ($3) – very sweet and got quite a thick milk taste. Not too bad.

Red ruby ($3) – very icy and chewable red ruby. Not too sweet too.

4) Taste of Thailand (Bei Sheng Seafood Restaurant) @ 701A Yishun Avenue 5 Singapore 761701

IMG_5499

Pineapple Fried Rice – soft, steaming hot and tastier than plain white rice for sure. The rice is sprinkled with cubes of pineapple and shreds of omelette. It is topped with flavourful pork floss. It gives you all the carbohydrates and kids would love this simple yet delicious dish.

SAMSUNG

Curry Prawns – fresh and tender. Perfect for prawns lovers. Generous servings as well. The curry is a good spread on plain white rice.

SAMSUNG

Fried Fish – don’t be fooled by its dry, skinny and all bones appearance! The fish is extremely crispy on the outside and yet very meaty on the inside. The chilli complements well with it. It’s addictive.

Sweet and Sour Pork – probably cooked over a very strong and powerful fire because it’s piping hot! The meat itself is of a right biting texture. It is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Not too sweet, not too sour. The sauce is of a just right taste.

Spring Onion Pork – meat is soft, overall dish is fragrant and appetizing due to its simple outlook yet displaying contrasting colours. Pork lovers, this is the right dish for you!

Long Beans – slightly salty but still acceptable. It’s very thin and chewy.

Tofu Soup – a little bit too salty and sticky. Not my type.

The good thing about Taste of Thailand is that the prices are reasonable and in fact quite cheap. For myself, the total bill usually only costs $35 to $55 for a family of four with 3 – 4 small dishes and rice. One important tip to take note is that the restaurant gets extremely crowded during the weekends. Many kiasu Singaporeans start queuing once it opens its doors. I personally feel that the quality of the food drops when the chefs are being rushed to prepare so many dishes for so many people during busy periods. Hence, it would be wise to visit Taste of Thailand during the weekdays. The chefs might probably be in a better mood and can cook slowly and happily.

5) Thai Express @ Bishan Junction 8 Shopping Centre

Lemon grass + spicy cashew nuts for starters. Yummy! It’s in fact the tastiest dish for today’s dinner lor!

The advertised award-winning dish masaman chicken curry with thai-style pancake. The curry had flavourful spices and it was not too spicy. 3.5/5 The pancake = roti prata. It was too oily and not crispy enough. 2/5 The overall wasn’t so WoW for $12.90…… I was disappointed.

The sa-nook thai honey chicken. Very sweet! Quite tender and soft. 3.5/5 Not a fan of chicken here and I thought this was just quite usual. Boo hoo T_T

Green curry chicken balls, just the way I like it. I loved the lemon grass taste! 4/5 Ahhh finally something that tasted decently good tonight. I’m so picky lah I know.

Coconut milk sago, mostly left untouched. TOO STICKY TO EAT. Not my style to eat something so sticky like glue =/ It had a slight indian taste (instead of coconut) + really overly sticky to eat. 2/5

THAI EXPRESS

I’m going to hunt for more thai cuisine!
